The North American F-100D Super Saber was one of the primary jet fighter-bombers of the United States Air Force. It entered service at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, becoming the first USAF fighter capable of achieving supersonic speeds in level flight. The F-100D was actively used during, among others, the Vietnam War, where it served in close air support and strike missions. These aircraft were also operated by the air forces of Denmark, France, and Turkey. The Super Saber's service period reflects the realities of the Cold War, mainly from 1956 to 1971 with the USAF and longer in other countries' air forces.
