Description of Reggiane Re 2003 Aircraft

The Reggiane Re 2003 was a single-seat light bomber and reconnaissance aircraft designed by the Italian company Officine Meccaniche Reggiane. This aircraft was developed as an evolution of the successful Re 2002 fighter platform, particularly valued by the Regia Aeronautica during World War II. The first prototype of the Re 2003 made its maiden flight in 1941. Despite excellent test performance, production was limited due to problems with the availability of suitable engines and the changing wartime situation.

Characteristics of the Special Hobby 72135 Kit

  • Very precise details, including a realistically reproduced cockpit, surface structure with recessed panel lines, and accurately designed landing gear components
  • High quality sprues minimize the need for sanding and finishing
  • Decal sheet allows for the recreation of first prototype markings
  • Elegantly molded clear plastic canopy
  • Excellent proportions and accurate silhouette of the aircraft

Who is it for?

This set is especially recommended for collectors of Italian aviation and modelers interested in reconstructing World War II aircraft prototypes. The assembly difficulty level is rated at 3/5 – the model requires precision, but the carefully designed parts make the build enjoyable. Glue and paints are not included and must be purchased separately.

Special Hobby 72135 Reggiane Re 2003 1st Prototype 1/72 is an excellent choice to enrich your collection with a rarely seen model of an aircraft that left its mark in the history of Italian aviation technology.

Scale
1/72

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
