Techmod 72002 - Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat (1/72)

Category: Decal set for plastic scale models

The product Techmod 72002 - Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat (1/72) is a high-quality decal set intended for aviation modeling enthusiasts, especially those building plastic models of American WWII fighters in the popular 1:72 scale. Decals from the renowned manufacturer Techmod allow you to recreate several authentic and detailed paint schemes of the legendary Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat – the most effective carrier-based fighter of the US Navy of that era.

The set includes historical variants:

  • F6F-3, white 30K, squadron VF-1, aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, Battle of the Marianas, June 1944
  • F6F-3 Bu.No.40427, white 19, squadron VF-6; pilot Alex Vraciu, US Navy air ace
  • F6F-3, white 21K, squadron VF-1, USS Yorktown, Marianas, June 1944
  • F6F-3, white 3X, squadron VF-51, USS San Jacinto, July 1944
  • F6F-3 "The Minsi", Cdr. David McCampbell, CVG-15, USS Essex, 19 June 1944

The Grumman F6F Hellcat was one of the most effective carrier-based fighters used by the United States during World War II (1943-1945). These aircraft played a key role in air combat in the Pacific, contributing to the US gaining air superiority. The F6F-3 version participated, among others, in the Battle of the Marianas and in numerous operations on aircraft carriers such as the USS Yorktown and USS Essex.

The product is made of high-quality transfer film conforming to professional modeling standards – it allows for precise transfer of markings onto the model as well as easy adaptation to irregular surfaces. The decals are characterized by sharp detailing and faithful reproduction of markings, including non-standard numbers, codes, insignia, and personal emblems of air aces like Alex Vraciu and David McCampbell.

I recommend the Techmod 72002 decals both to aviation history enthusiasts and to intermediate and advanced model builders who wish to make perfectly marked replicas of historic Hellcats. The product does not include the model airplane – it is intended for independent use with any 1:72 scale Hellcat plastic model.

Difficulty level: 2/5. Basic familiarity with the application of water-slide decals is recommended.

Scale
1/72

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
