Historical description of the AIM-7M Sparrow missile

The AIM-7M Sparrow is an American semi-active, medium-range air-to-air missile, introduced into service in the 1980s. It was widely used by the United States Air Force, Navy, and numerous allied users around the world, such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, and Japan. The AIM-7M took part in many conflicts – it was used during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, the Cold War, as well as in the Balkan conflicts, remaining in service until modern times before it was gradually replaced by the AIM-120 AMRAAM.

Recommendation and assembly difficulty

The Eduard 648069 AIM-7M Sparrow model is recommended for intermediate and advanced modellers interested in realistic representation of modern armament on their fighter aircraft models (e.g., F-15, F-16, F/A-18, Tornado). The assembly difficulty is rated at 2/5 – the application of photo-etched parts and precise painting require some experience. The set will work great both as an addition to dioramas and as an enhancement for a finished fighter aircraft model. It allows you to give your project authentic character and to faithfully reproduce the historical and modern look of the machine.

Scale
1/48

What does the scale of the model mean?

A model scale designation such as 1:30 means the model is 30 times smaller than the original. Scale indicates proportion, not resolution or detail.

  • Models with a smaller number after the colon (e.g. 1:48, 1:32) are larger and have more detail.
  • Scales with higher numbers (e.g. 1:164, 1:200, 1:350) are smaller - good for collections, dioramas, or displaying many models together.
