Historical description of the models:

The aircraft carrier Taiho ("Great Phoenix") was the first warship in the Japanese navy to feature a fully armored flight deck, designed based on the experience with earlier Shokaku-class carriers. It entered service in March 1944 and, as the flagship of the 3rd Fleet under Vice Admiral Ozawa, participated in the decisive Battle of the Philippine Sea, where on June 19, 1944, it was sunk after being torpedoed by an American submarine.

Shokaku ("Flying Crane") – Zuikaku’s sister ship – was officially commissioned in 1941 and took part in the most important maritime operations in the Pacific: the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Battle of the Coral Sea, and the Battle of Midway. It was sunk in June 1944 during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, torpedoed by USS Cavalla.
