It was only just before the outbreak of World War II, when modernization of the fleet began after a long period of underfunding, that more complex camouflage schemes appeared. In 1939–1940, most Dutch combat aircraft were painted in a unique camouflage: Camouflage Green, Beige, and Brown on upper surfaces, and Camouflage Brown below.
