Historical description:
USS Langley CV-1 was the first American aircraft carrier, created by converting the collier USS Jupiter (AC-3). She served in the US Navy from 1922 and played a key role as a training and experimental ship in the early days of carrier-based aviation. Between 1922 and 1942 (the interwar period and World War II), the ship was used, among other things, for pilot training and aircraft transport to the Philippines. USS Langley sank on February 27, 1942, after being attacked by Japanese aircraft during the Pacific campaign.
