The Kawanishi N1K2-J Shidenkai was one of the best Japanese fighters of the final phase of World War II, used by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The aircraft was developed from the N1K1 Kyofu floatplane but was thoroughly modified into a land-based version, greatly outperforming earlier designs in terms of performance. The Shidenkai excelled in combat at medium and low altitudes, was armed with four 20 mm cannons and two 7.7 mm machine guns, and was used, among others, in defensive battles over Okinawa and during attacks on American B-29 bombers.
