History of the Messerschmitt S-199

The Messerschmitt S-199 is a flying legend—a Czechoslovak post-war version of the German Bf 109G fighter. After the end of World War II, between 1947 and 1957, it was produced in Czechoslovakia from available parts. The aircraft were used by both Czechoslovakia and Israel (as the Avia S-199). The S-199 entered service during the post-war and Cold War periods, as one of the first post-war fighters in this part of Europe. It is especially known for taking part in the first aerial combat missions of the State of Israel in 1948.
