The Panzerkampfwagen VII Löwe (from German "lion") was one of the most ambitious armored projects by the Krupp company for the German Wehrmacht between 1941 and 1942. The inspiration for this project came from analysis of Soviet super-heavy tanks. Two versions of the vehicle were designed: a lighter and a heavier one, but ultimately the Schwerer Löwe variant was selected, which was intended to later replace the Tiger II. Due to a gradual shift in concepts toward ever larger designs, the Löwe project was abandoned in favor of the even more massive Maus. No example of the tank was ever built, but preserved plans and documentation continue to inspire both modelers and historians to this day.
